| Seats
are reserved in the conditioned carriage of the
Shatabdi Express, which is scheduled to arrive
in Agra shortly after 8.00. An early breakfast
is served in the train following disembarkation
we travel some 40 km to the west before reaching
Fatehpur Sikhri. The mid 16th century capital
of Emperor Akbar, reputedly constructed in thanksgiving
for the foretelling of the birth of his son, Jehangir,
by the saint Shaikh Salim Chisti, is today a perfectly
preserved example of a city at the height if the
empire’s short-lived splendor, and is an
essential for all visitors. Lunch can be arranged
to be taken at a cityhotel in Agra, after which
we begin what be, for many, the climax of their
visit to India…………the
truly magical TAJ MAHAL. Amazingly graceful from
every angle,it is not until you have the chance
to view it at closer quarters that you can appreciate
the exquisite detail and superb craftsmanship.
We must, however begin retracing our steps and
rejoin the Shatabdi Express for our return to
Delhi |
